65 OGLE -TRIPLEX -GTS
The GTS (Glazing Test Special) was commissioned by Triplex the British automotive glass manufacturer. In order to reduce costs, it was a low budget project, it was decided to base the car on the Reliant Scimitar coupe which was an Ogle design. The body below the beltline is unchanged from the coupe. Innovations include; the first car all adhesively glazed, first heated windshield, has a ferrous oxide content in the glass to reduce glare and heat transfer. The car was exhibited at the 1965 London Auto Show on the Ogle stand. It was owned by Prince Philip from 66 to 68. It was course car at the British Grand Prix in 69. It was installed at the National Motor Museum from 73-88 and returned there in 92-93 for an exhibit on Royal Motoring. It has been featured in many articles in the British motoring press. I purchased the car in 2002 and brought to the USA.
